There’s a moment in a good sauna where the noise falls away and you come back to yourself. Set around a live wood burner, in our hand-built sauna hut, we carry that moment to wherever you happen to be.

Inspired by years spent inside Finland’s sauna tradition, but not an imitation of it. This is something of our own: a rustic, English take on an old ritual. Private, restorative, quietly euphoric.

The sauna

Hand-built, mostly reclaimed, entirely wood-fired

Built in the classic shepherd’s hut style, the sauna is made from around 90% reclaimed materials — genuine antique fittings and vintage stained glass among them. At its heart sits a Harvia wood-burning stove: real fire, soft steam, no electric heater.

It seats five comfortably and up to eight. And because it needs no power supply, it can go almost anywhere.

Step outside and there’s an open-air shower and wooden barrels filled for a cold plunge, under the sky.

How it works

We bring everything to you

“The sauna is sacred, so we treat it that way.”

A dedicated host delivers the sauna, sets it up where and how you’d like it, and tends the fire throughout. Every booking includes all firewood and fuel, full insurance, and an open-air shower.

Cold-plunge barrels are available as an optional extra.

What we need from you

A water supply for the shower and plunge (around 200 litres a day, depending on guest numbers)
Reasonably level ground with vehicle access for the trailer
No electricity needed
Set-up takes around half a day

Our story

Tim spent years in Finland, deep inside a culture that treats the sauna as a cornerstone of daily life. He came home convinced of one thing: that a real wood-burning sauna offers something no electric room ever can, and that Britain deserved its own version of it.

Not a copy of Finland, but a culture of our own: unhurried, rustic, tended by firelight. That’s the idea behind The Mobile Sauna: to light the sparks of an English sauna culture, and share it as widely as we can.

Why wood fire?

We don’t do electric. Our sauna is heated the old way, by a fire that’s built, tended and felt. It’s slower, warmer, alive in a way a switch never is. And because it needs no power, it can go almost anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an age limit?

Yes, guests need to be 16 or over.

How many people does the sauna hold?

Five people sit comfortably, and it can take up to eight.

Do guests need to fill anything in?

Just a short health form before their first session, so we know the sauna and cold plunge are safe for them.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry £5 million public liability insurance and all the safety paperwork festivals and venues ask for. Our host is first aid trained, and we keep a fire extinguisher and fire blanket on site.

How much does it cost?

Every event is different, so we quote based on location, dates, length of hire and the size of the event. For private hire we usually work on a day rate; for festivals we're happy to discuss a day rate, a pitch-fee arrangement or a share of sauna takings. Get in touch and we'll find something that works.

How long does set-up take?

Around half a day.

What do you need from us on site?

A water supply for the shower and plunge, reasonably level ground with vehicle access for the trailer, and nothing else — the sauna needs no electricity.

How hot does it get?

The sauna is ready at around 70°C and warms further as the fire builds. Our host keeps it comfortable for your group.

Do you provide towels or robes?

We don't, so please ask guests to bring their own towel.

How far do you travel?

Anywhere in the UK. We're based in Hertfordshire, so travel costs depend on how far you are from us.
